KVK Ri Bhoi Celebrate 19th National Fish Farmers Day

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ri Bhoi under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Umiam along with the rest of the country celebrated the National Fish Farmers’ Day on the 10th July 2019 at Pahambirthem Village Nongpoh. The day is commemorated in remembrance of scientists Dr K. H. Alikunhi and Dr. H.L. Choudhury who had invented induced breeding technology on this day way back in 1957. Addressing the gathering, Bankitkupar Mukhim SMS Fishery Science said the invention is hailed as a landmark achievement in the history of fishery in India and abroad.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Bankitkupar Mukhim SMS KVK, Ri Bhoi, highlighted the initiatives of the KVK in implementing the new farmer policies of the government and also assuring the farmers of all possible co-operations from the KVK as and when required for aquaculture development in the district. He further stress on the use of promising technology which can be used by the local farming community to enhance fish production and productivity. Partnership must grow among the stake holders to give a best environment for the farming communities.

Around 20 fish farmers from the village were present at the event. Training on Integrated Fish Poultry Farming System was also organized during the program and Bankitkupar Mukhim SMS Fishery Science gave an elaborate lecture which motivates the farmers to adopt advanced scientific methods to produce more fish and achieve self-sufficiency in fish production. During the program fish fingerlings of Amur carps were also distributed to the fish farmers
